This Month With A Susquehanna River Guide

By Lance Dunham

Can you feel it? The fish can and they are reacting to the slight change in the weather and water. The mornings are slightly cooler and the days are mixed with still a little summer heat and a little fall winds. The average water temperature went from the upper 70’s  down to the upper 60’s. The fish are starting to feed a little more aggressively and we are catching and releasing many big smallmouth bass along with the cool water fish such as the walleye, northern pike, and muskie. In the past 30 days we have caught and released over 2,100 fish from my boat. Sometimes we release the fish a little sooner than expected. We were fishing jerk baits the first week of this month in the early morning fog and the topic comes up of do you ever catch Northern Pike and Muskie. I was just saying that we do in the cool water months of spring and fall but I haven’t seen one since last May when up comes a decent Muskie of about 40” and grabs the clients lure right by the boat. “Set the hook” I yelled...                                                   READ THE FULL STORY>>>

What Shows Do You Want To See Us Do in 2009

By Michael Haney, DVO Producer

We are booking shows for 2009. Let us know, what and where you want type of shows you would like us to shoot. We will do both fresh and salt and we really want to do some places and types of fishing that we haven't done yet. I would love to do a Surf Fishing show again, maybe even a Salmon show, we have never done a Salmon show. Would you like some non fishing but fishing related shows like: Visit to boat and lure manufacturing and maybe fishing with celebrities.  Let us know.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced a new state record for golden rainbow trout caught, by Eli Borger of Palmerton, PA.

State record golden rainbow
New state record golden rainbow

The 12-year-old Borger caught the 13-pound, 8-ounce golden rainbow trout in Mahoning Creek, Schuylkill County, on the opening day of trout season in 2008.

Borger said he spotted the large rainbow trout a day earlier swimming in a deep hole. Once 8 a.m. rolled around on opening day, he spotted the trout again swimming upstream. He traveled upstream to follow the fish and after several casts, he hooked the orange monster on a white trout magnet. The trout jumped and thrashed in the water and was netted a few minutes later.

Borger’s golden rainbow trout easily broke the record of 11 pounds, 10 ounces held by Erie angler R. W. Hafer since 1986.

The mission of the Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve, and enhance the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities. For more information about fishing and boating in Pennsylvania, please visit their website at www.fishandboat.com.
